Jacoby Brissett 'Perfect Fit' for Commanders, Says Washington Ex

The Washington Commanders signed Jacoby Brissett this week, and one person thinks it could be the "perfect" fit.

The Washington Commanders will start their seventh different Week 1 quarterback in as many seasons when the 2023 campaign kicks off this fall.

There's a chance that second-year pro Sam Howell could nab the job, but he'll have some competition after the team signed veteran Jacoby Brissett this past week to start free agency.

Brissett, 30, started 11 games last season for the Cleveland Browns and is playing for his fourth franchise in four years. Brissett's veteran leadership has former Washington tight end Logan Paulsen believing that he is the "perfect fit" for the Commanders.

“You couldn’t have asked for a more perfect fit," Paulsen said. "He is good enough to win some games, he can teach, he understands his role, this is the perfect signing for the team.”

To respectfully disagree with Paulsen and not to offend Brissett, he is not a perfect fit for Washington. A perfect fit would be Patrick Mahomes in an Eric Bieniemy offense.

Brissett does bring value, but he's only come to Washington to add pressure to Howell and make him earn the job. While that may result in Brissett playing at some point this season, he isn't seen as the long-term option for the Commanders.

That being said, his experience with several other offenses around the league is beneficial for a young quarterback like Howell to be around, and that makes him a pretty good (but not perfect) fit.
