In this story:

Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young is embarking on perhaps his most important NFL season. After the franchise declined to pick up his fifth-year option, Young now has to go out and prove he is worth a new contract.

That might be hard as he is coming off an ACL injury, but after more than a year removed, Young has ditched the knee brace and is ready to roll.

"I feel myself," Young said. "I feel well. I'm where my feet are at, and I feel good."

That is likely to be music to the ears of Commanders fans.

With Young now no longer in a brace, the want to go full speed is no doubt something that occupies his mind. But given how early it is in the offseason, it might be wise for Washington to ease him into training camp.

After a couple of days, though, how is Young feeling?

"I ain't about to get too detailed," Young said. "But just know that I feel good, and I'm running around, and I'm feeling explosive again."

With the Commanders' defense one of the better units in the NFL last season without Young, the potential addition of the Pro Bowler could see another level of improvement from Jack Del Rio's defense.

But before Young can worry about being a part of Del Rio's defense, he needs to be full-go in training camp, and that is something he can't wait for but noted that it could be a slow process.

"Yeah, definitely," Young said. "That's the plan. That's always the plan, and just taking it one day at a time. Just be where your feet are and just staying consistent."

So Young is feeling good, his knee is healthy, and the brace is off. All that's left to do is produce on the practice field, and if he can get through training camp and preseason, the Commanders' defensive line will have another scary weapon at its disposal.
