Commanders' Jonathan Allen Helping 'Stack The Wins'

In this story:
Washington Commanders defensive tackle Jonathan Allen is coming off yet another Pro Bowl season as the team narrowly missed out on a playoff berth.
With the Commanders making several changes this offseason, most notably Eric Bieniemy as the offensive coordinator and a group led by Josh Harris, now the new owners, expectations are high for what the team can do this season.
But for Allen, that means nothing right now. Instead, he is focused on doing what is best for the team, and the rest will take care of itself.
“I try not to focus on what we're capable of because at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter right now," Allen said.
"I'm just trying to make sure I'm doing my part and helping this team become the best football team we can be. At the end of the season, we'll stack up the wins and see where we're at.”
With the Commanders now a week into training camp, the pads have gone on, and the "real" football starts.
Washington had the seventh-best defense last season for points allowed, conceding on average just 20.2 per game, and the competition for spots in Jack Del Rio's rotation is fierce.
The likes of Chase Young, Montez Sweat, Daron Payne, and a host of younger players all striving to better themselves. But did anyone stand out to Allen?
“It's hard to say with the second day of pads," Allen said. "I think everyone's had a good period. [DE] KJ [Henry]’s playing really good. [DE] Andre [Jones Jr.]’s playing really good, then [DE] [Joshua] Josh [Pryor] is playing really good, and then [DT] [Phidarian] big Phil [Mathis] plays really good. It's just about consistency, so the more and more days we get into training camp, the more we can see what they're really made of.”
There is a positive energy around the organization now, something that has been missing for decades.
With positive energy and the likes of Allen and his fellow Pro Bowlers on defense, it feels like the franchise is finally in good hands.
And no wonder fans are flocking to training camp - Washington has a good aura about them heading into the season.
