Good, Bad, Ugly: Redskins have nowhere to go but up after Week 4

The Washington Redskins fell to 0-4 for the first time since 2001 with a 24-3 loss to their division rivals, the New York Giants. Despite forcing four turnovers, the Redskins still found new ways to beat themselves. Rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins made his regular season debut as after starter Case Keenum was benched midway through the second quarter. Haskins finished the game 9 of17 passing for 107 yards and threw three interceptions.
The change sparked the Redskins' offense initially. Haskins marched his troops down the field and into the red zone using both his arms and his legs. Unfortunately, the offense had to settle for a field goal. It was downhill from there as the offense remained flat and stagnant. Now there may be more looming questions than answers for the Redskins' organization. For yet another week, the bad and ugly outweighed the good..
Good: Quinton Dunbar
Dunbar played well as the primary defender against Giants WR Sterling Shepard. Dunbar finished with three tackles, two passes defensed, and two interceptions. Both interceptions from the veteran cornerback were early in the game and potential momentum shifters, but the Washington offense failed to capitalize.
When guarded by anyone else, Shepard caught all seven of his targets for 76 yards.
According to Pro Football Focus, Dunbar was only targeted three times in the coverage, and he didn’t give up a completion on the one play where he didn’t get an interception.
Bad: Coach Jay Gruden and Dwayne Haskins
Many insisted Haskins should start against the Giants, regardless of whether or not the Ohio State product was ready. Gruden's reluctance towards the change may have been his way of protecting his QB from the "Daniel Jones vs Dwayne Haskins" storyline. Also, it would have protected Haskins from potentially playing poorly, the following week, against the New England Patriots. In a perfect world, Haskins' debut is against the Miami Dolphins.
Too bad the world isn't perfect and as such, neither was Haskins' debut. People will undoubtedly compare Haskins' performance to Jones'and their successes and failures will be linked together for the foreseeable future.
Now the question becomes whether or not Haskins will make his first start against the New England Patriots' stout defense in Week 5.
The decision to change signal callers felt more calculated than desperate. Leading up to the game, Gruden seemed committed to Keenum but did hint to a quarterback change.
Referring to Haskins, Gruden said "he'll get his chance", but never provided when that would arise.
The franchise altering question is, did Gruden do enough to ensure Haskins was prepared for his chance? Though it's only one game, the Redskins fans' and organization's hope is rightfully weary after the loss and Haskin's play.
To say Gruden is on the hot seat is an understatement. The Redskins are stuck in the mud and lack both identity and grit. 12 penalties in a horrible loss don’t help Gruden's case for remaining the head coach.
Ugly: The Redskins' Defense
The stat sheet will reveal the Redskins' forced four turnoverstypically a good sign for both their defense and offense. Against the Giants the turnovers are misleading though, essentially make-up over a pimple. The four turnovers is why the contest was just-another-bad-loss rather than the-worst-Redskin's-loss-inrecent-memory".
The Redskins' defense struggles to generate a consistent pass rush and make plays on third downs. In his second start, Giants QB Daniel Jones wasn't sacked and led his offense to a highly efficient, 8 for 13 passing on third downs, finishing 23 for 31 with225 passings yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. The two interceptions were great plays by Dunbar, but didn't make much of a difference for his team.
There were multiple missed tackles, missed assignments and holes in the coverages. Jones, the sixth overall pick in the draft, moved the ball downfield using both his arm and athleticism as he occasionally ran for positive yardage. The Giants' new quarterback also ran for 33 yards.
