'Blood, Sweat & Tears': Jerry Jones' Top 5 Most Emotional Dallas Cowboys Cuts

FRISCO - DeMarcus Ware has lived it, so he can provide insight into the sad depature from The Star of left tackle Tyron Smith, the all-time All-Pro who is expected to signing with the New York Jets after 13 seasons with "America's Team.''

"It's very hard,'' said Ware, who was dumped by Dallas in ... as a cap casualty, only to go on a become a Super Bowl champion in Denver. "When you put your blood, sweat and tears in for a team, like I did, it's hard to leave.''

It's hard, and emotional, for the players. We know from our experience that it is also hard and emotional for team owner Jerry Jones. ... which allows us to compose our "Top 5 Most Emotional Cuts'' from Jerry's Cowboys.

No. 5 - Dez Bryant

No. 4 - Tyron Smith

No. 3 - DeMarcus Ware

No. 2 - Jason Witten

No. 1 - Tony Romo.

In fairness to Jerry, we won't ever ask him to actually "rank 'em.'' Heck, in fairness to the greatness of this group, and so many others, maybe we shouldn't attempt to rank them, either. But it is an impressive group.

"Blood and sweat''? Yes. "Tears''? Yes, on Jerry's part, too.

It's a business. And right now, with the departure of Tyron highlighting an unfortunate start to Dallas' 2024 league year, critics think it's a business that the Cowboys aren't very good at.

But this team has assembled some memorable talent in recent years. All five of those guys are Dallas icons. There are Hall of Fame futures in that bunch.

Romo. Witten. Tyron. Dez. Ware. The order isn't really the point. Ware thinks he's nailed down what the point actually is.

"Tyron Smith is one of the best tackles in the league," said Ware. "He was a cornerstone for the Dallas Cowboys. Protecting Dak (Prescott), Tony he always did what he needed to do. Now it's another chapter of his life."

"It's very hard. When you put your blood, sweat and tears in for a team, like I did, it's hard to leave. ... But guess what? I'm back. We always come back to what is comfortable. That is here in Texas," said Ware.

And indeed, in 2017, Ware signed a ceremonial one-day contract with Dallas to retire as a "Cowboy for Life'' ... a club that in many ways, surely on an emotional level, includes all five of these guys.
