‘Dak Hate’ is 'Not Fair!’ Cowboys’ Take from Fox Analyst

Fox Sports NFL analyst Greg Olsen explains why Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott gets more hate than practically every other player in the NFL.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is among the most critiqued players in the NFL. If he throws a few touchdowns in a game, no one bats an eye, but one loss or even an interception will put the biggest taunting target on his back for the entire week.

Fox Sports NFL analyst and former tight end Greg Olsen disagreed with Prescott's long-time narrative, saying "it's not fair."

"I've always been a big fan of Dak, I like him personally," Olsen said on The Rich Eisen Show on Monday. "Every time I meet with him for production meetings and whatnot, I come away impressed with his demeanor, his approach and his mentality."

Olsen explained that the extra "knock on" Prescott is due to the team he plays for.

"You're playing quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, I think the expectations and the spotlight doesn't get any bigger in sports than that position and that franchise," Olsen said. "Secondly, and this is justified, it seems like in those playoff moments, things just kind of fall short. I don't think that all of those playoff losses fall on his shoulders."

Nevertheless, Olsen believes that Prescott has "played more than top-tier football," but former Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is a major reason why Prescott has taken the blame.

"They've been a top five offense for the last couple years...but Kellen Moore wanted to throw it," Olsen said. "He was going to put the ball in Dak's hands as much as he could and when you throw it 40 plus times a game you're gonna have a couple turnovers.

However, Olsen thinks the offense will be directed differently this year with Moore gone and coach Mike McCarthy calling the plays.

"I think there's going to be more of a run (play-style) and they're going to be more balanced and conservative. They've been a great regular-season team and now the expectations and the next step for Dallas is 'we got to stop just being one of the top teams in the regular season and then get into the playoffs and fall flat.'"

Olsen said that McCarthy's past as a play-caller will really make an impact on the Cowboys this season.

"Mike McCarthy's been doing this at a high level - obviously a Super Bowl champ in Green Bay - he's been a head coach and a play-caller in this league for a long time," Olsen said. "He's got a lot of experience and he's very comfortable and confident in his plan."

Prescott tied for the league's most interceptions last season with 15. If McCarthy does what Olsen expects him to do, Prescott's narrative should change rapidly.
