Cowboys in 'Win-Now Mode'; A Jerry Jones Difference?

Following a 12-5 campaign and divisional round exit, the Dallas Cowboys traded for Brandin Cooks and cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Consistent success in the NFL is a nearly impossible impossible feat.

Just ask Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, who didn't win his first Super Bowl until his 15th season despite reaching the pinnacle of the sport three times beforehand.

And recognize it as a big reason why Tom Brady's seven Super Bowls over his 23 seasons is such a mind-boggling accomplishment.

Despite possessing one of the most talented rosters in the league, the Dallas Cowboys 12-win campaign and NFC Divisional Round exit last season is viewed as a disappointment to many.

But a busy offseason has seen Dallas make trades for proven players in wide receiver Brandin Cooks and 2019 Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore.

These low-risk and high-reward moves - giving up a pair fifth-round picks and a sixth-round draft pick in the process - solidifies Dallas' pursuit of  a deep postseason run.

CBS Sports - in its "one thing learned from every team this offseason" - article says the the Cowboys is simple: "They're squarely in win-now mode."

"It's not exactly a departure from the norm under Jerry Jones' watch," CBS Sports writes. "But their biggest offseason moves -- tagging Tony Pollard, trading for Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore -- profile as short-term rentals. Time will tell if the upgrades are as enough to elevate QB Dak Prescott and coach Mike McCarthy, who've seen two straight promising seasons end with untimely hiccups.

With an elite defensive unit and No. 6 ranked roster in the NFL, Dallas looks to win its first NFC Championship and Super Bowl since 1995. But here is the question that lingers regarding being "win-now'' or "all-in'': It's often about writing one more big check. And if/when in this 2023 season Jerry Jones, approaching age 81, does that?

It will become more than a slogan. It will become a sign.
