Cowboys Mock Draft: Alabama RB Jahmyr Gibbs Replaces Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott?

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Dallas Cowboys this summer will be the running back position and the football futures of Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott.

FRISCO - The NFL season is officially over and the Kansas City Chiefs have been crowned champions. It's time for front offices to start focusing on the offseason at hand and how to replicate what Kansas City achieved in 2022.

For the Dallas Cowboys, along with their focus on free agency and re-signing their own, the NFL Draft is just around the corner. And just in time, a first post-Super Bowl mock draft arrives hours after the game ended.

One of the biggest questions surrounding Dallas this summer will be the running back position and the football futures of Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott.

Here, the Draft Network has the Cowboys addressing that need ... with Jahmyr Gibbs, the running back from Alabama. They write ...

"The team is set to lose Tony Pollard in free agency and Ezekiel Elliott is just a shell of what he used to be. It was clear that this offense was at its best when Pollard was on the field, as he provided much-needed juice to their running game. Well, I could argue that Jahmyr Gibbs is even more explosive than Pollard and could provide just as much, if not more juice to this running game.''

There is one oddball thing about this mock: It lists the Cowboys as owning the No. 27 overall pick, when in fact Dallas is slated to pick at No. 26.

But this idea in general does mirror one that has become commonplace - that is, the selection of Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson as the new Cowboys bell cow. (This mock has Bijan going at 18 to Detroit.)

The Cowboys' recent draft history is pretty good, so one can imagine whoever Dallas takes with this first pick could be able to make an immediate impact on wherever they line up. ... especially if the Cowboys change their stated position on wanting both Pollard and Elliott to return.
