Saquon Barkley Lauds Cowboys RB Tony Pollard: 'One of My Favorites'

Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard drew high praise from New York Giants back Saquon Barkley as both players are looking for a long-term deal

The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants may be bitter NFC East foes, but even the most heated of rivals can show some love to each other occasionally.

One such occasion was a sign of respect between the team's star running backs, with New York's Saquon Barkley hyping up Dallas' Tony Pollard. With the annual NFL Top 100 list just around the corner, Barkley gave his fellow NFC East back a ringing endorsement for the rankings.

"Tony Pollard, he's probably one of my favorite backs right now," Barkley said via NFL Films. "He epitomizes an every down back. At any moment he touches the ball, he can score, from anywhere. 70, 60, 10, one. No matter what, he's gonna find a way to score."

Pollard is coming off his best NFL season in 2022, rushing for 1,007 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging over five yards per carry. With the Cowboys releasing veteran running back Ezekiel Elliot this offseason, they are counting on Pollard to become an even bigger part of the offense. This season, Barkley's claim of Pollard being "an every down back" will be truly put to the test.

It's not just playing in the same division and mutual respect that connects Pollard and Barkley. Both players received the franchise tag from their respective teams this offseason and are looking for a long-term deal. The difference is that, while Pollard has already signed his franchise tender, Barkley has yet to sign his as the July 17 deadline for a long-term deal grows closer.

As Pollard prepares to become the undisputed No. 1 back in Dallas, hearing such praise from another one of the game's best is some strong encouragement.
