Summer Snaps: Cowboys Preseason Opponents - and Wild Travel Plan - Revealed

In this story:
Those lucky enough to linger on the Dallas Cowboys' roster when the final week of the 2023 NFL preseason arrives will get a special reward in the form of a Las Vegas visit.
Granted, it'll be Nevada coming to them, as Dallas' next exhibition affairs will end with a tilt against the Las Vegas Raiders at AT&T Stadium. That game was one of the 49 preseason games unveiled this week, part of the NFL's schedule release festivities.
The Raiders' arrival (set for the week of Aug. 24-28) is one of two summer games destined for Arlington, as Dallas opens against the Jacksonville Jaguars (week of Aug. 10-14). In between, the Cowboys will travel to the Pacific Northwest to meet the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field (week of Aug. 17-21).
Unlike the release of the regular season ledger, official times and dates for the full preseason slate will be unveiled at a later date.
But here’s the interesting wrinkle: Dallas will presumably start training camp on the West Coast in Oxnard, Calif., in late July. Then comes the zip home to play the Jags … and then a return to the West Coast for more Oxnard camp and then the move north for the Seattle game.
That’s a lot of zipping!
Though the Cowboys are not included in the five-game national slate (starting with the opening Hall of Fame Game between the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets on Aug. 3), at least one of their games is likely destined for NFL Network. Local coverage will also be available of KTVT, CBS' metroplex affiliate.
Dallas and Jacksonville will unofficially meet for the first time since the Jaguars staged a memorable comeback from 27-10 down in December, as their 40-34 triumph was part of a late six-game winning streak that included a win over the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC Wild Card round. Las Vegas will visit AT&T Stadium for the first time since their thrilling Thanksgiving victory in 2021, a 36-33 overtime triumph.
Summer visits to Seattle likely invoke the painful memory of watching Tony Romo's Cowboys career indirectly end when they visited the Seahawks in 2016. Romo was injured during that exhibition slate, paving the way for then-rookie Dak Prescott to take over.
Curiously enough, the Cowboys are not set to face their in-state rivals, the Houston Texans, which always makes for some easy travel … unlike this zig-zag schedule.
