Cowboys Targeting WRs Evans, Diggs, OBJ in Free Agency? Team Website Creates Top-5 List

Dallas Cowboys Targeting WR Mike Evans, Stefon Diggs and Odell Beckham Jr. In NFL Free Agency? Team Website Creates Clever Top-5 List

FRISCO - One of the great strengths of the Dallas Cowboys team website is the freedom the Jones family grants to its content creators. DallasCowboys.com was and is a true original in that regard; to our knowledge, owner Jerry Jones has never dictated to that group what it can or cannot say, thus making the site about as "independent'' as is possible.

But ... the reader sometimes wonders: Is there "inside info'' reflected in what is written there? A great test case is this week's piece on the idea of taking Jerry seriously in his "all-in'' claim by using free agency to supplement the CeeDee Lamb-led receivers room ...

And next thing you know, we've got a list of candidates as the March 13 free agency window looms. ...

The site lists at the top of the list the Bucs' Mike Evans, while smartly adding that "this type of Tier A talent is a pipe dream'' but hey, isn't that one way to interpret "all-in"?

We bet Evans is about to be a $30 million APY guy, and that seems like reason enough to not wish too hard here. But his name is now in the ether.

Gabriel Davis of the Bills - a big-play guy with big ups and downs - makes the list. So does Curtis Samuel, the speedster who has been a flop in Washington.

And then as "honorable mentions,'' Odell Beckham Jr. of the Ravens and Michael Pittman of the Colts are noted. The site gives a "no'' on OBJ, however, as it does with Pittman, viewed as not a "fit.'' ... adding in summary that maybe "the Cowboys have what they need already in-house.''

And two more sharp notes: One, the site avoids the mention of Buffalo's Stefon Diggs, Trevon's brother (and not a free agent, by the way), coyly stating that is wishes to avoid "tampering'' charges. Why? Because even though these thoughts come from the writing staff and not from the front office, critics could still come to The Star with pitchforks.

And about that, DallasCowboys.com does something else wise here. At the very top of the page is a disclaimer: The content provided is based on opinions and/or perspective of the DallasCowboys.com editorial staff and not the Cowboys football staff or organization.

An interesting list. And a smart disclaimer. You know, just in case.
