Cowboys Trade for Aaron Rodgers Would Create 'Ready-Made' Champ, Says Larry Fitzgerald

"The most enticing route for Packers Aaron Rodgers ... is for him to go to the Dallas Cowboys,'' Larry Fitzgerald says.

FRISCO - Maybe it's just because Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers - as "disgusting'' as he is - is such a compelling figure.

How else to explain the series of nonsensical predictions and theories that connect him with being traded to the Dallas Cowboys?

On the latest episode of the Let's Go! podcast, future Hall of Fame wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, aware of the Raiders and Jets being interested in trading for the always-grumbling MVP - suggested a "controversial'' landing spot for Rodgers.

"I know there's a lot of conversations about the Jets," Fitzgerald said. "If I was Aaron, that wouldn't be the most enticing route. It would be something a lot more controversial, like for him to go to the Dallas Cowboys or something like that. He can be reunited with Mike McCarthy and have a team around him that it’s ready-made."

Oh, it would be "controversial,'' alright. And why?

Let us count the ways ...

-Fitz suggests that Rodgers and coach McCarthy would enjoy a "reunion.'' We're not sure that's true.

-The cost of trading for Rodgers, especially given that "franchise QB'' Dak Prescott is already on the roster, is likely prohibitive.

-Oh yeah. Dak. As a practical cap-based matter, trading Dak for Rodgers isn't a realistic option. (We've explained this before, and Fitz shouldn't feel bad; Bill Simmons doesn't understand it, either.)

-The Packers would probably prefer to trade him to an AFC team.

-And one more biggie that has somehow gone unnoticed because Rodgers might be the greatest QB of all time: He fell off a statistical cliff in 2022.

Rodgers, 39, has a reputation for being difficult and for being great, but he's coming off the worst season of his career, with a 91.1 passer rating and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 26/12.

That's not "better'' than Dak. In fact, Prescott had a passer rating of 91.1 also, with his 23 touchdowns and his career-worst 15 interceptions.

If the Cowboys are going to try to improve with a 91.1 passer, it might as well be with the 29-year-old and not the 39-year-old, right?
