Vikings Cut Dalvin Cook; Cowboys Ex Ezekiel Elliott to Minnesota?

The Minnesota Vikings need a running back after cutting Dalvin Cook. Could former Dallas Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott be an option?

Former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is still looking for a new home after America's Team cut him earlier this offseason ... but a new destination may have just opened up.

After the Minnesota Vikings announced that Dalvin Cook would be released on Thursday, the team needs a new running back. While Alexander Mattison is capable of starting, adding Zeke to the backfield would be a plus for the Vikings.

"With the Vikings cutting ties with their own long-time Pro Bowl running back, there is an opening for a player to be a complement to Alexander Mattison," CBS Sports writes. "Minnesota drafted Ty Chandler and DeWayne McBride the past two years, though, and still has electric return man Nene Nwangwu (nominally a running back) on the roster as well. If there were a role for Zeke here, it would likely be as a short-yardage back, but we don't know how interested either he or the Vikings would be in that proposition."

Zeke ran for 876 yards last year, the worst numbers of his seven-year career with the Cowboys. However, it was still an effective season in some ways. To put it in perspective, Mattison ran for just 283 yards last season and has yet to reach the 500-yard mark in his four seasons with the Vikings. A lot of that can be credited to playing behind Cook, but adding Elliott to the Minnesota backfield - especially viable as we continue to report that Zeke returning to Dallas is not the plan - can only help the Vikings. … at the right price for both parties.
