ESPN's Paul Finebaum Rips Tony Romo: 'No Idea What He's Talking About,' Says Analyst of Cowboys Ex at Super Bowl
LAS VEGAS - We have made the point - often this week, as CBS is airing this year's Super Bowl matchup, which puts its No. 1 telecast team in the spotlight - that Tony Romo is an easy target for criticism, for a number of reasons.
Some don't like his hyperbolic style. Some have criticized his alleged lack of preparedness. His own boss thinks his fan-like nature at times needs to be "calmed down.''
And maybe some people don't like Romo because he starred for the Dallas Cowboys.
But the critics we give credence to are the ones who critique with substance ... which here does not include Paul Finebaum.
Romo, who will be on the call for CBS alongside Jim Nantz, is now being ripped by ESPN's Finebaum.
A caller on The Paul Finebaum Show expressed his negative view of Romo this week, and Finebaum, the SEC Network analyst, piled on in agreement.
“I agree with you,'' he said. "I have no idea how Tony Romo is allowed to be on the air. I mean, he clearly does not know what he’s talking about. He used to his first year.''
It's an odd take. Romo "used to know what he's talking about'' when he burst onto the TV scene in 2020 ... but now, after four years on the job ... he knows less?
Romo's call of Super Bowl LVIII should ultimately take a backseat to the actual game, as the real topic of discussion throughout Sunday's battle between the Chiefs and 49ers should be, you know, the Chiefs and the 49ers.
But the spotlight will find Romo. And, we suppose, Finebaum will be bothered by it.
"I can’t handle either one of those people,'' he said, also bringing up ESPN's lead voice Joe Buck. "But that’s just a personal opinion.”
