Dallas Cowboys vs. Detroit: 'Can't Take The Lions Seriously!' - NFL Legend

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys are still in the hunt for the NFC East title, although they'll need to win out and get some help along the way. But for now, the goal is to just win.

Next on the schedule for the Cowboys is Detroit. As the Lions come to town on Saturday, they find themselves champions of the NFC North for the first time ever, and division champions for the first time since 1993.

And it's because of that drought that it's hard for some to take this Lions team seriously. That includes NFL legend and former Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald. In a recent appearance on SiriusXM's "Lets Go", Fitzgerald elaborated.

"Look, you can say that I’m the Grinch right now, but a team that hasn’t won a division championship since 1993, it’s hard for you to take them that seriously," Fitzgerald said via Sports Illustrated. "It’s just been a long time coming. Yes, they’re playing really well, but they are the Detroit Lions."

Fitzgerald even went so far as to say he can't take their upcoming playoff appearance seriously.

"It’s just tough to get excited about what they can do in the playoffs," he said. "You want to see this great matchup they have against the Cowboys. It’s a wonderful test before they go into the playoffs.

"Not only did they have gas for $1.11, but they also had the greatest running back in history running the ball for them, Barry Sanders," Fitzgerald noted. "Last I checked, he’s not running out of that tunnel any time soon.”

Granted, Sanders will not be taking the field for Detroit ever again, but he might not need to. The Lions boast a pretty good rushing tandem of David Montgomery and rookie Jahmyr Gibbs, and a playoff-seasoned quarterback in Jared Goff.

Fitzgerald might not take the Lions seriously, but the Cowboys should. It's another test against a winning team for Dallas, and that's a test they've failed at times this season. With home-field advantage, though, the Cowboys have a better opportunity. Dallas is 7-0 at AT&T Stadium this season and just 3-5 on the road. The Lions have been good this season on the road with a 6-2 record.

So if there's one thing the Cowboys can't do, is take Detroit lightly on Saturday.
