Cowboys Rookie Delivers Epic Postgame Speech Amid Historic Stint With Dallas

It has been a historic year for Dallas Cowboys undrafted rookie and offensive tackle Shiyazh Pete.

Pete, who was signed by the Cowboys following the 2026 NFL Draft, is the first NFL player of Navajo heritage and played his second preseason game on Saturday night with in front of thousands of Navajo in attendance in Arizona.

The Kentucky product saw the field for six snaps in total and did not allow a pressure in what a was a strong showing for him.

Following the game, Pete delivered what can only be described as an epic speech in the locker room in front of his teammates.

"Well, that was an incredible win," Pete said. "I am very fortunate to be amongst you and to play on the same field, wear the same star, hold it on our chest, and I'm proud of us. Proud of how far we've come."

"This game, fate, brought us here as strangers, but this game, this star, this team will make us brothers," he concluded, which rightly drew a raucous reaction from his teammates.

If you don't have goosebumps after that last line, check yourself for a pulse.

Pete received a warm welcome from the Navajo in attendance and even received a standing ovation as he entered the game.

“The standing ovation was incredible,” Pete said, according to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I want to thank all of the fans that showed up to support me and wear my jersey. I lost count of how many Navajo Nation flags I saw. It was awesome.”

“I saw hope and courage,” Pete added. “It’s definitely etched in the history books. It was incredible. I’m just trying to find the words of how special and impactful that was."

“It was really cool to see him have that moment, but also our players to join in and helping to celebrate him,” head coach Brian Schottenheimer said. “That was really cool. I hadn’t seen that before. I’m really proud for him and for what he’s done for us.”

Given the fairly crowded situation the Cowboys have along the offensive line, Pete's chances of making the 53-man roster are slim.

However, there is always a chance he's kept on the practice squad, something the Cowboys should definitely consider if for no other reason than his postgame speech abilities.

Regardless of what his future holds, nobody can take away his special journey in the NFL. We will no doubt be rooting for him, regardless of where he ends up.
