Cowboys Dak Prescott Backup Andy Dalton Touted as 'Future Hall of Famer'?

In this story:
FRISCO - Andy Dalton was a perennial playoff-team leader with the Cincinnati Bengals, a failed stop-gap back home for a year with the Dallas Cowboys, and is now the quarterback bridge for the Carolina Panthers as they try to develop No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young into a "future Hall of Famer.''
But in the meantime? Running back Miles Sanders, now of Carolina, thinks his new veteran quarterback is the guy who is Canton-bound.
Said Sanders on WFNZ: "We got a very, very good young quarterback that’s being mentored by a very, very, very good quarterback, a future Hall of Famer Andy Dalton - who I have a lot of respect for."
We have a lot of respect for Dalton, 35, too. The Texas native and TCU product made three Pro Bowls with the Bengals and went to the playoffs five times in his nine seasons there. He was a seemingly great fit when he came to Dallas for the 2020 season on a one-year, $7 million deal. The arrangement was fueled in part by COVID; Dalton was building a home in the DFW area and wanted to be close here to his family.
But the football part didn't work out. Dak Prescott broke his ankle in Week 5, and Dalton and the rest of the Cowboys - in part drained of emotion by the horrible injury - finished 6-10.
Dalton spent a year with the Bears and a year with the Saints before moving to a solid situation for him. The Panthers are starting from scratch, and his leadership will be of value there.
But the Hall of Fame? Most of the QBs who achieve that play in Super Bowls. Dalton hasn't done that, and is unlikely to do that. Most of the QBs who make it to Canton have gaudy numbers; Andy doesn't have that, either.
We bet not even Dalton fancies himself as a Hall of Famer. But it does speak to his qualities as a teammate and a leader that Eagles ex Sanders thinks of him that way. And if Bryce Young gets moving on a track to elite status? Andy Dalton will somebody likely deserve credit for it.
