Cowboys Dig Deep in Visits, Host Surprise Alabama Dalton Schultz Replacement?

The Cowboys host Alabama tight end Cameron Latu this week as one of their pre-draft visits.

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys hosted a visit from Alabama tight end Cameron Latu this week per reports from NFL Network.

Dallas is currently searching for depth at the tight end position after the loss of Dalton Schultz in free agency to the Houston Texans, and several recent mock drafts have the Cowboys selecting a tight end in one of the first two rounds. 

But Latu is expected to be a middle- to late-round pick in this month's NFL Draft.

Latu did improve his draft stock during the Senior Bowl in January by earning the top practice player award at the tight end position. After three seasons on the Alabama roster, Latu finally saw playing time in the last two seasons, catching 56 balls for 787 yards and 12 touchdowns.

If the Cowboys do draft Latu, he'll be asked to help replace the 57 catches for 577 yards and five touchdowns that Schultz leaves behind.

Jake Ferguson, the Cowboys fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin last year, and Peyton Hendershot, an undrafted free agent from Indiana, took the majority of the snaps at tight end alongside Schultz for Dallas last season. And they are well-though-of here inside The Star. But the Cowboys continue to dig though this tight end-deep draft for an additional answer.
