How Many Cowboys On NFL 'Most-Underpaid' List?

Linebacker Micah Parsons and offensive tackle Tyler Smith land as the most underpaid players at their positions

The NFL salary cap creates a challenge for teams to build a winning roster with limited funds. For that reason, teams strive to get impact players on relatively cheap cap hits, something the Dallas Cowboys have done very well recently.

Recently, Yardbarker published an article compiling the most underpaid and overpaid players in the NFL at each position. The Cowboys performed very well on said list, landing two on the underpaid section and none on the overpaid.

The first Cowboy on the list is a no-brainer, outside linebacker Micah Parsons. The 2021 first-round pick has become the star of Dallas' defense, and as he's still on his rookie deal, he comes at a bargain for how productive he has been. Parsons is due for a monster extension soon, but as long as he keeps up his amazing play, he's worth almost any price.

"Parson's payday will come soon enough, but until then, he will remain one of the most underpaid players in the NFL as an elite pass rusher," Yardbarker writes. "He's been an All-Pro in both of his NFL seasons, totaling 26.5 sacks. Parsons' cap hit is less than $4.7 million this season."

The second Cowboy isn't as obvious, but is still a very valuable member of the team nonetheless. Offensive tackle Tyler Smith, a 2022 first-round pick, performed very well as a rookie and played multiple positions along the line. At a cap hit of just over $3 million, he comes at great value for Dallas.

While no current Cowboys landed on the overpaid side of the list, a former one did. Outside linebacker Randy Gregory, who left Dallas last offseason to join the Denver Broncos, appears as the most overpaid player at his position. Gregory had a rough first season in Denver, playing in just six games due to injury and only had two sacks. With a cap hit of over $16 million for the next four seasons, Gregory will have to turn it around quickly.

The Cowboys have done well at finding exceptional talents at an affordable price, and they're hoping to find more soon as they continue to push for a Super Bowl.
