Cowboys End Minicamp With 'Powerful' Tribute to Allen Shooting Victims

The Dallas Cowboys ended their late spring activities in Frisco on a somber note, remembering the memories of those killed in the tragic shooting in nearby Allen on May 6.

The Dallas Cowboys ditched their traditional blue, silver, and starred threads for their final day of 2023 minicamp activities at The Star in Frisco, instead using the day to remember the memory of the eight victims of a mass shooting in nearby Allen on May 6.

The tribute was conceived by Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, an Allen resident, with help from the Allen Police Department. Thursday's shirts were purchased on Home Team Prints' official site, with all proceeds benefitting the families of the victims. 

"Every time you get the chance to support somebody and have their back, I think it's a really powerful moment," Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn said. "It's powerful in the locker room and it's powerful in the community. It's our way to show our support for men and women and children and families that have to go through things that no one wants to go through. For us as a team to say we've got your back, it's the best thing that you can say to someone in a tough moment."

In addition to the customized shirts bearing the insignia "Allen Str8ng," (the offense wearing white and defense wearing blue while each shirt bore the player's last name and number) McCarthy made an undisclosed donation to another fund staged to help survivors of those who perished.

"The ultimate goal was to raise funds to help those who need it,” Home Town Prints co-owner Kevin Easley told the Dallas Morning News. “I’m confident it was a pretty sizable donation. A donation of any kind is mission accomplished in my mind.”
