Cowboys Rumor: Ezekiel Elliott ‘Good Fit’ for Broncos?

Former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is among the top available free agents, and one Denver Broncos analyst believes the back could be a good fit in the Mile High City.

The Denver Broncos made arguably the biggest deal in last year's offseason by trading for current quarterback Russell Wilson. 

The price tag? Three players (quarterback Drew Lock, defensive tackle Shelby Harris and tight end Noah Fant) along with four future draft picks.

And after a disappointing 5-12 campaign, the Denver faithful is undoubtedly questioning that package for the now 34-year-old signal caller. 

But with former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott still on the market, could Denver make another big splash and sign the three-time Pro Bowler? 

Broncos analyst Sayre Bedinger believes a short-term deal for the 2016 No. 4 overall selection may be too good to pass on. 

"I don't think there's any harm in the Broncos bringing in an accomplished back like Ezekiel Elliott, especially after the debacle we saw at this position last year," Bedinger wrote.

After losing young and promising running back Javonte Williams to a  torn ACL and LCL for a majority of last season, Denver signed veteran back Samaje Perine to a two-year $7.5 million deal last month. 

And with Williams timetable still in question, adding Elliott and an early-round draft pick to the running back room could be enticing for this Denver offense. 

"He might even be able to rehab his overall value by playing in this offense," Bedinger wrote. "Although he’s taken on a ton of work in his NFL career, Elliott is shockingly only going to be 28 this coming season. This is a one-year investment I would love to see the Broncos try to make … The committee approach (Coach) Sean Payton wants to see come to life in Denver will be good for Zeke."

And while last season was Elliott's worst statistically over his seven-year career, whoever decides to sign the veteran back is still receiving solid depth to their running back room.
