Dolphins' QB Josh Rosen has 12 games to prove he is 'the man' in Miami

Can the 22-year old QB do enough to prevent the Dolphins from selecting a QB in the first-round?

The Dolphins are currently 0-4 and firmly cemented at the bottom of the AFC East.

Which is no surprise.

After all, the front office made moves prior to the season, that has set the team up to do exactly what they’re doing. And regardless of whether the players want to admit it or not, those above are 100% behind the thought of ‘tanking’.

But for a team that has been so desperate for a franchise signal-caller since the days of Dan Marino, one player still remains hopeful that he can prove to this staff that he is the future QB of the Miami Dolphins- no matter how unlikely the odds.

As you know, earlier this season the Dolphins traded for Josh Rosen-the former 10th-overall pick in the 2018 draft. And for a man that was given the raw end of the stick in Arizona, behind one of the worst offensive lines in football, he now finds himself in an even more unfavorable situation. But Rosen knows that nothing is guaranteed in the NFL.

Truth is, he watched the Arizona Cardinals toss him aside like recycled trash, in favor of Kyler Murray, much like Miami could do if the team lands the #1 overall pick. Many believe Tua Tagovailoa is the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’. A tunnel that could see the Dolphins finishing with the worst record in the HISTORY of the sport. That’s right, Miami is on pace to be the worst team not only in 2019 but ever. So, what can Josh Rosen do to prove to this staff he is ‘the man’ in Miami?

Just win baby!

And he will have every opportunity to do so, now that head coach Brian Flores named him the starter for the remainders of the season. Rosen was asked what it meant to be him to be named the starter for the final 12 games of the 2019 season.

“I think it’s awesome, but you can never treat it like that. I have heard – I have heard guys like Tom (Brady) mention like he feels like he is competing against someone every day and that is the sort of attitude that you have to have in order to continue to improve. So, it might be a settled competition but in my head I am always trying to act as if someone is behind me every single day.”

He was then asked about the elephant in the room, and what he thinks about the potential of being cast aside in favor of another young signal-caller.

“I mean, I don’t think about it too much; but I am aware of it. The way I am sort of approaching this year is I feel like I am really just trying out for the team. I feel like I am auditioning and I am trying to put my best foot forward and prove to everyone upstairs and ‘Coach Flo’ (Head Coach Brian Flores) and (General Manager) Mr. (Chris) Grier that I am the man moving forward. It is not like what you would – I don’t know, it’s a different circumstance than a lot of other quarterbacks have been put in; but it is the one that I have been given and I am taking it in full stride and I am excited to hopefully prove over these next 12 more weeks that I am their guy moving forward.”

Rosen now has 12 games to prove to the coaching staff and those above, that he has the potential to be the future signal-caller of the Dolphins.  And although there is very little doubt the team will select a QB in the first-round of April's draft, Rosen is hopeful he will have every opportunity to compete in 2020.

“Maybe. If I play well enough over these 12 (weeks), then hopefully they will make the decision; but if – technically, it is never over essentially, but I don’t know. It depends. I could be here seven (years and) after six good years and they could be like, ‘yeah, we are done with you.’”
