Eagles Season Predictions: Super Bowl Hangover, Cowboys Take Back NFC East?

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the most talked about teams in the NFL, likely due to the debate over whether they get back to the Super Bowl or suffer a "hangover."

Following their Super Bowl appearance, the Philadelphia Eagles are one of the most talked about teams in the NFL this offseason. Some of that is due to the team's continued success in the NFL Draft, while the other side of it is fans and critics arguing over expectations for the upcoming season.

The Eagles' critics are often pointing to the attrition they suffered on the coaching staff, losing both their coordinators. And on the roster, multiple contributors left via free agency, giving some reason to tab Philly as a potential candidate for a Super Bowl hangover.

With all this, CBS Sports suggests that the Eagles are part of the "Super Bowl hangover." Additionally, the site released its NFL playoff predictions, breaking down how each division will fare in 2023.

For the NFC East, CBS does not have the Eagles becoming the first team to repeat as division winners for the first time since 2004, when Philadelphia brought home its fourth-straight division title. Instead, the site predicts that the Cowboys will win the East at a 10-7 record.

"Philly went from having the easiest schedule in the NFL in 2022 to having the hardest," CBS Sports writes. "I actually want to pick the Giants to win the division and the model giving them nine wins in Brian Daboll's second season gives me good reason to do just that. For now I'm rolling with the Cowboys, who might actually be improved on offense with a little balance from Mike McCarthy's playcalling, something I'm sure I won't regret later."

The site projects that the Eagles will also hold a 10-7 record, but that the Cowboys will hold the tiebreaker, The selection of the Cowboys to win the division shouldn't shock anyone based on their offseason additions and retained talent from last season.

Dallas was aggressive, making trades to fill two glaring needs at receiver and cornerback. Th team landed receiver Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans and Stephon Gilmore via the Indianapolis Colts. The Cowboys also managed to keep many of their key contributors from a year ago while drafting Michigan nose tackle Mazi Smith with their first-round pick to help stop the run.

Will all of these moves from a usually conservative Cowboys front office be enough to surpass the Eagles in 2023?

Time will certainly tell, but CBS has the Cowboys as the NFC East winners for now.
