Avonte Maddox Back in a Walking Boot

In this story:
PHILADELPHIA – Avonte Maddox wore a walking boot at Friday’s practice.
Shortly after practice, Maddox was seen in the locker room. He wasn’t wearing the boot, but he was walking gingerly and limping ever so slightly.
The Eagles cornerback has been battling a toe injury since Christmas Eve. He returned to play in last Sunday’s NFC Championship Game and made three tackles, including one for a loss, on 19 defensive snaps in the Eagles’ 31-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
The good news is that Maddox has more than a week before Super Bowl LVII to receive treatment for the toe injury that cost him the final two regular season games and the divisional-round playoff win against the New York Giants.
In other practice news:
- Punter Arryn Siposs was holding for kicker Jake Elliott during the portion of practice open to reporters.
Siposs had his 21-day practice window opened on Thursday after battling an ankle injury suffered in a Dec. 11 win over the New York Giants.
Brett Kern, who had taken his place, was in the end zone shagging Elliott’s kicks on the practice field goals.
- Lane Johnson, who spoke on Friday, did not practice as he continues to work his way through a torn groin muscle that will need surgery after the Super Bowl.
“I feel better now than I did initially in the first game,” said Johnson, whose first game playing with the injury was against the New York Giants in the divisional round. “The first game was my biggest challenge. Obviously, the last game was a challenge in itself.
‘But I feel like the first game, for me, personally, was harder. Because I wasn’t sure that I could play through it. But after the initial contact at first, in the first game, I was good. I had better confidence from the second drive on.’
Obviously, the Eagles are taking it easy with Johnson so he will be ready to play against the Chiefs.
- Not practicing on Friday were G Landon Dickerson (elbow, resting player), T Lane Johnson (groin, resting player), C Cam Jurgens (hip, resting player), CB Avonte Maddox (toe, resting player), DE Robert Quinn (foot, resting player).
Limited were: CB James Bradberry (resting player), WR A.J. Brown (resting player), DT Fletcher Cox (resting player), DE Brandon Graham (resting player), C Jason Kelce (resting player), G Isaac Seumalo (resting player), CB Darius Slay (resting player), DE Josh Sweat (resting player)
