GLENDALE, Ariz. -  The Indianapolis Colts are prepared to hire Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen as their next head coach after Super Bowl LVII.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, all that's left to do is reach an agreement on a contract, something that isn't supposed to be an issue with what will be a first-time head coach.

Steichen, 37, is the play-caller of what was the third-ranked offense in the NFL in the 2022-23 season, one specifically built around the dual-threat ability of quarterback Jalen Hurts.

An MVP finalist, Hurts is 16-1 as the Eagles' starter this season heading into Sunday's Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs,

The two sides are scheduled to meet this week to finalize the deal but Indianapolis began contacting the other contenders in their coaching search to let them know that Steichen was going to be the guy.

Once things are made official in Indianapolis with Steichen, quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson is expected to be elevated to OC with the Eagles.

Johnson received interest from Frank Reich to be his OC in Carolina so the Eagles would risk losing him if the promotion wasn't offered. Passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo would be the other contender and he may come as a package deal with Steichen to the Colts as the OC there.

Assistant offensive line coach Roy Istvan is another Eagles' assistant Steichen would like to bring along, according to an NFL source.

It might be a double-barrel blow for Sirianni in the coming days with defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon set to interview for the Arizona head-coaching job next week.

Gannon is close to new Cards GM Monti Ossenfort and the belief around the Super Bowl festivities in the Phoenix area this week is that Gannon will likely be getting that job.

The top in-house candidate to replace Gannon is defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson.

Vic Fangio, the architect of the defensive scheme the Eagles use, signed on a two-week consultant for the run-up to Super Bowl LVII against Kansas City and would have been a candidate but he's already agreed to be the new DC in Miami under Mike McDaniel where he is set to become the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL.
