Howie Roseman SZN: Wide Receivers

In this story:
The Eagles’ receiving duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith is quite simply the most talented in the franchise’s history, and the two delivered in a big way last season, combining for 183 receptions for 2,692 yards and 18 touchdowns with each setting a team record.
Brown, acquired from Tennessee on draft night for first- and third-round picks, set a new standard for receiving yards and finished with 88 catches for 1,496 yards and 11 scores, while Smith, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2021 draft, had the most receptions for a WR in Philly lore, finishing with 95 for 1,196 and seven TDs.
Things get even rosier when you realize Brown will not turn 26 until June 20 and Smith is only 24, and the calendar won’t turn again for him until November.
The depth probably isn’t where the Eagles want it to be, however, at least at WR3 where the speedy Quez Watkins, 24, took a step back in his third season, something the Southern Mississippi admitted himself.
Zach Pascal, 28, who was robbed at gunpoint outside his home in Maryland on Friday morning, is a nice player to have around and is one of the better-blocking receivers in football but he’s not a threat as a receiver in 11 personnel packages.
The undersized Britain Covey, 25, made the team as a rookie, undrafted free agent but his main role is as a punt returner. As a receiver, Covey is limited to slot work due to his 5-foot-8 frame.
As far as futures deals, it runs the gamut from the familiar in veteran slot WR Greg Ward, 27, to the true developmental type in Olympic hurdler Devon Allen, 28, and finally, the traits-based Tyrie Cleveland, 25, a former seventh-round pick in Denver who runs a 4.46 at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds.
STAY:
-Brown is the best receiver the Eagles have had since Terrell Owens and is just entering his prime.
-Everything about Smith screams superstar except his frame, which will always be a concern. As long as he stays healthy, however, and he did end the season banged up to the point he was wearing a walking boot after the Super Bowl, the Eagles have something special.
-Pascal is a free agent but Sirianni loves him and that thought is reciprocated. Another one-year deal will likely be offered.
-Covey will be pushed as the punt returner and will always be a long shot.
-Allen may head back to the track world exclusively but if he wants to continue chasing the NFL dream, the Eagles will allow him.
-Ward is so well-liked by the organization he will get another camp opportunity.
-Cleveland is likely a camp body until he proves otherwise.
GO:
-The Eagles tried to expand Watkins’ role and it didn’t work. At this stage, he’s a shot player and the Eagles probably want a more well-rounded one. Don't be surprised if the Eagles try to shop Watkins.
