Falcons Trade for Caleb Williams Must Be For No. 1 Pick with Bears

In this story:
The Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears are going to be linked as trade partners for the next few months, but maybe not in the way most people think.
The Falcons are certainly in the quarterback market this offseason, and with several players worth drafting and others worth acquiring via trade ... but none may have a higher ceiling than projected No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams.
Williams is seen as the top quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, and with the Bears holding the No. 1 pick for the second year in a row, they may be looking to wheel and deal ... just like they did last year.
A year ago, the Carolina Panthers traded up from No. 9 all the way to the top pick to select Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, which didn't yield the results they had anticipated. Carolina had to trade their first round pick for this year's draft, which is why the Bears find themselves at No. 1 again.
However, the biggest reason why the Falcons need to trade all the way up to No. 1 if they want Williams has to do with the team picking at No. 2, the Washington Commanders.
The Commanders, like the Falcons, have a new coaching regime. Former Falcons coach Dan Quinn is at the helm and he hired Kliff Kingsbury to be the team's offensive coordinator.
Kingsbury coached the Arizona Cardinals from 2019-22 and spent last year as an offensive analyst for ... the USC Trojans, where Williams played last season.
Falcons' Fontenot 'Eager' for Campbell's Return
The Kingsbury hire doesn't guarantee that the Commanders are going to take Williams if he's on the board at No. 2, but it certainly implies that it could very well be a possibility.
That's why the Falcons, if they truly want Williams, need to push all their chips in and go for No. 1.
