Brian Daboll Provides Update on Giants' Injuries

Daniel Jones is feeling better, but tests haven't come back yet. Plus updated on Saquon Barkley, Andrew Thomas, and more.

The news from New York Giants head coach Bran Daboll regarding the team's injured players is somewhat mixed in that some guys seem to be closer to being able to play next Sunday night against the Bills while others are still up in the air.

Quarterback Daniel Jones (neck) is feeling better, according to Daboll, who wasn't quite ready to rule Jones out.

“We’re optimistic. He’s feeling better today. I think he’s moving in the right direction,” Daboll said during a video call with reporters. “We’ll see where he is when he comes back on Wednesday, but [he] doesn’t feel terrible today.”

Daboll added that all the test results from Jones's exam weren't full back yet, which raises the question of whether the optimism is based on Jones's word or tangible medical evidence.

Jones was sacked six times on Sunday, less than a week after being sacked ten times in the Monday night loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He's been bounced around more than a pinball but has gotten back up every time until this past week when his neck pain returned.

In other Giants injury news, Daboll said it's too soon to say if running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) and left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring) would be ready to return this week.

Daboll sounded more optimistic about Barkley, who has now missed the last three games with a high ankle sprain, being closer to returning than Thomas, who has been sidelined since Week 2 with a hamstring strain.

Last week, Barkley did team drills for the first time since suffering his injury at the end of the Giants' Week 2 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Thomas, however, wasn't even on the practice field last week as he continues to be treated for his injury.

Daboll said that starting right guard Marcus McKethan, who had been dealing with a knee injury coming into the game and eventually left Sunday game with a knee issue, should be good to go for Sunday.

However, it was too soon to say if linebacker Micah McFadden (ankle) and center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), both of whom missed Sunday’s game vs. Miami, and outside linebacker Azeez Ojualri (ankle) injured in the game, would be ready to play.
