Daniel Jones Opens Up About His Neck Injury

Jones admits to being in pain after being injured on a sack.

Sadly, it was just a matter of time before the New York Giants poor offensive line would ultimately result in an injury for starting quarterback Daniel Jones.

That finally happened in the fourth quarter of the Giants 31-16 loss to the Miami Dolphins when Jones, sacked by Andrew Van Ginkel, came out of the game with a neck issue and was immediately ruled out.

And now? Jones, who missed the final six games of the 2021 season with a neck issue, will wait for the results of an MRI he's scheduled to have on Monday to see if his injury is going to cost him any time in what's already a lost season for the 1-4 Giants.

"I think I’m certainly in some pain--physical game," Jones said after the game. "So I’ll meet with the doctors and trainers and then go from there."

Jones, who twice said he felt fine, otherwise declined to speculate on the nature of his injury or if it was a reoccurrence of the one from two years ago. He did speak as though he planned to be at the helm of the offense moving forward, adding that he has to do his part in helping the Giants get on track.

"I think I got to do a better job getting the ball out of my hands and taking advantage of the opportunities that are there," he said.

"We got to avoid hurting ourselves. I think that falls on all of us. All those things that push us back and get us in longer yardage situations make it tough. But it's on all of us to do it better, execute better, and be more consistent."

Jones has been sacked 16 times in two games, an unfathomable beating that no quarterback should endure.

"Yeah, you don't want that," head coach Brian Daboll said. "Affecting the quarterback plays an important role in the game, and we got to figure out a way to protect him better."

But Jones, an offensive co-captain, wasn't willing to point any fingers at his teammates for letting the team down.

"We’ve got a lot of work to do," he said. "We’re in a tough spot, but we got the guys to do it. Confident we can bounce back. We got to put the work in, and it's about what we do on the field."
