The New York Giants sprung another pleasant surprise on its fan base Wednesday by signing left tackle Andrew Thomas to a huge contract extension.

Originally the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Thomas has played in 45 regular-season games with 44 starts in addition to two postseason contests.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Georgia product comes off a breakout season in which he was selected second-team All-Pro. He was a key member of an offensive line that helped the Giants finish fourth in the NFL in rushing, while Saquon Barkley, who signed his franchise tag on Tuesday, rushed for a career-high 1,312 yards.

Thomas's deal is $117.5M over five years. His $23.5 million APY is the second-highest in history for an offensive lineman after Laremy Tunsil.

Thomas's deal also includes $67 million fully guaranteed at signing, the most ever for an offensive lineman in NFL history, breaking Ronnie Stanley’s previous record at $64 million. The $67 million fully guaranteed at signing is also the most ever for a non-QB first-round extension after three years.

Thomas, who had two years remaining on his rookie deal, including this year and next year (the option year), said he took the deal now for security, adding that things started heating up after OTAs concluded.

When asked about Thomas's new contract, quarterback Daniel Jones, who got his big payday, quipped, "Extremely happy for him … and happy for myself as well.”

Thomas was due to count for $10,291,778 against this year's cap. Per a source, in the first year of his extension, he will count for $5.02 million.
