'We Don't Take it Lightly': Brandon Beane Reflects on Trading Stefon Diggs to Houston Texans

After the Texans traded for Stefon Diggs, one of the NFL's best wide receivers, Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane believes it was the best move for the long term.

The Houston Texans collectively shocked the NFL world on Wednesday when it was announced they made a blockbuster trade with the Buffalo Bills for All-Pro wide receiver Stefan Diggs. Not only did this move send shockwaves throughout Houston, but it was an eye-opening decision from the opposite perspective.

Why did the Bills decide to trade away the 30-year-old who produced yet another 1,000-plus yard campaign?

According to Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane, there were a variety of factors involved, and it was a difficult decision to make.

“You don’t want to get into every reaps you make every move. It’s not one thing,” Bills general manager Brandon Beane said. “You weigh the pros and cons with every decision like this. We don’t take it lightly. But we’re always making moves in the best interest of the Bills.”

Houston relinquishing a 2025 second-round pick in exchange for Diggs is a grand slam maneuver to vault them into true Super Bowl contender status. Imagining C.J. Stroud throwing to a receiver trio of Diggs, Tank Dell and Nico Collins has elite numbers written all over it.

“It’s not the first time we’ve been called to ask, would we move him?” Beane said.

It’s obvious what the goal is now for Houston: win the AFC South yet again, and take the leap to true contender status. Meanwhile, in Buffalo, they reset around Josh Allen for a hopefully more fruitful long-term outlook.

“A lot can change in two years,” Beane said.

Diggs and the Bills are set to reunite next season when the Texans host Buffalo at NRG Stadium.
