Jaguars 4th-Round LB Ventrell Miller Out For Year With Achilles Injury

The Jaguars' fourth-round selection will miss his entire rookie season.

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie linebacker Ventrell Miller will be placed on injured reserve after suffering an Achilles injury on Saturday, ending his rookie season.

A fourth-round pick and the No. 121 selection in this year's draft, Miller was having a standout preseason with the Jaguars' backup defenses, recording two sacks and making impressive plays seemingly weekly.

Miller was injured in the second half of Saturday's preseason finale vs. the Miami Dolphins. Miller also had foot surgery this offseason during the draft process.

A Florida native, Miller redshirted in 2017 after being suspended. He then appeared in 13 games in 2018, recording 15 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, one pass deflection, and one interception.

Miller started 11 games in 2019, recording 55 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and two pass deflections. He then started 10 games in 2020, leading Florida in tackles with 88, along with 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

Miller played in just two games in 2021 due to a torn bicep injury, but he returned in 2022 as a team captain, recording 74 tackles in 10 starts and totaling 8.5 tackles for loss, two pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.

With Miller now out for the season, the Jaguars will continue to lean on Chad Muma as their top backup inside linebacker and Shaquille Quarterman and Caleb Johnson as the other options at inside linebacker entering Week 1.

It appears Miller is the only injured Jaguar who, at this point, will be placed on season-ending injury reserve.
