Predicting the Jaguars 2023 Season: Game-By-Game Projections

Which games do we think are the most winnable for the Jaguars in Year 2 under Doug Pederson and which games do we think could prove to be hurdles?

Predicting the Jaguars 2023 Season: Game-By-Game Projections

The Jacksonville Jaguars know what their 2023 calendar looks like.

Week 1: @ Indianapolis Colts

Prediction: Jaguars win (1-0)

Anthony Richardson could develop into a stellar NFL quarterback, but it is hard to imagine it will happen in Week 1. The Jaguars get a break here by facing Richardson in his first-ever NFL start.

Week 2: vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Prediction: Jaguars lose (1-1)

The Jaguars could always surprise the Chiefs after taking them down to the wire twice last year, but Patrick Mahomes in September is never an easy draw.

Week 3: vs. Houston Texans

Prediction: Jaguars win (2-1)

C.J. Stroud in start No. 3 and a rookie head coach in DeMeco Ryans means the Jaguars should have a tactical advantage over Houston. The Texans will be better this year than they have been in the last two, but it is hard to expect the improvement to happen by Week 3.

Week 4: vs. Atlanta Falcons (London)

Prediction: Jaguars win (3-1)

The Falcons will be starting a young quarterback and a new-look defense in an overseas game, which should mean an experienced Jaguars team and their continuity should play a role.

Week 5: @ Buffalo Bills (London)

Prediction: Jaguars win (4-1)

The Bills are a good -- but flawed -- team, but will have to travel overseas to face a Jaguars team that is already acclimated to London. Advantage, Jaguars.

Week 6: vs. Indianapolis Colts

Prediction: Jaguars lose (4-2)

The Colts and Jaguars will go .500 against each other until the end of time. The Jaguars normally dominate the Colts in Jacksonville, but the law of averages is working against them.

Week 7: @ New Orleans Saints (TNF)

Prediction: Jaguars win (5-2)

The Jaguars have a better roster than the Saints, a better coach, and a better quarterback. Maybe they drop this one due to all of the travel, but they should be the better team.

Week 8: @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Prediction: Jaguars win (6-2)

The Steelers should be frisky this year, but the Jaguars have an offense that will put up points and a defense that has already flashed the ability to dominate the Steelers at the line of scrimmage.

Week 10: vs. San Francisco 49ers

Prediction: Jaguars lose (6-3)

This one strictly comes down to Kyle Shanahan vs. Mike Caldwell. For now, the Jaguars' don't have the horses on defense or the scheme to match up with the 49ers' offense.

Week 11: vs. Tennessee Titans

Prediction: Jaguars win (7-3)

Who will start at quarterback for the Titans in Week 11: Ryan Tannehill or rookie quarterback Will Levis? The Jaguars shouldn't have many issues with the Titans' defense or skill players, but the quarterback should decide this game.

Week 12: @ Houston Texans

Prediction: Jaguars win (8-3)

The Texans will be much better by Week 12, but the Jaguars should be rolling at this point of the season.

Week 13: vs. Cincinnati Bengals (MNF)

Prediction: Jaguars lose (8-4)

This game could go either way, but for now I will lean toward the Bengals' offensive advantage over the Jaguars' defense to be greater than the Jaguars' offense's advantage over the Bengals' defense.

Week 14: @ Cleveland Browns

Prediction: Jaguars win (9-4)

The Browns have arguably the best running back and edge defender in the NFL, so they will always be a tough draw. With that said, the Jaguars' offense projects well against their defense as a whole.

Week 15: vs. Baltimore Ravens (SNF)

Prediction: Jaguars win (10-4)

This was one that could go either way, but the Jaguars' offense should be able to put up points against the Ravens' secondary. Still, this should be an offensive shootout that neither team should be counted out of.

Week 16: @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Prediction: Jaguars win (11-4)

The biggest question to me about this game is whether the Jaguars will face Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask. Either way, Tampa should be in full Caleb Williams mode, making for one of the Jaguars' most probably wins.

Week 17: vs. Carolina Panthers

Prediction: Jaguars win (12-4)

Frank Reich is a good coach who knows the Jaguars' weaknesses like the back of his hand, but he will still have a rookie quarterback and so-so skill group that will be tasked with keeping up with the Jaguars offense. Jaguars should win this one.

Week 18: @ Tennessee Titans

Prediction: Jaguars win (13-4)

The Jaguars will still have something to play for in Week 18 -- the No. 1 seed. They will put their full force out vs. a Titans team that is likely taking one more trip around the sun before they completely rebuild, which is advantage Jaguars.
