Report: Jaguars Showing Interest in Broncos' CB Essang Bassey

Could the Jacksonville Jaguars' first move of free agency come in the secondary?
After a first wave of free agency that has seen the Jaguars remain on the sidelines, a Thursday night report from 9NEWS reporter Mike Klis suggests the Jaguars are showing heavy interest in Denver Broncos free agent cornerback Essang Bassey.

Bassey has played 27 of his 28 career games with the Broncos since signing with them as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
Bassey appeared in 52 games (28 starts) with Wake Forest where he finished his career with 228 career tackles (162 solo), five interceptions, one sack, 45 passes defensed, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries He served as a team captain in his final season.
Bassey appeared in 12 games (3 starts) with the Broncos as a rookie, finishing with 22 tackles (20 solo), one interception, two passes defended, and one fumble recovery before sustaining a season-ending knee injury (ACL) in Week 13.
Bassey spent the first nine weeks of the 2021 season on the reserve/physically unable to perform while recovering from the previous year's knee injury. After appearing in one game for the Broncos, he was waived and acquired by the Los Angeles Chargers, who he also appeared in one game for.
Denver re-claimed Bassey on waivers after the Chargers waived him after the season. Bassey then went on to appear in 14 games, recording two pass deflections, 15 tackles, and one tackle for loss. Bassey played 23% of the Broncos' defensive snaps, but he logged 252 snaps (62%) on special teams.
According to Pro Football Focus, Bassey spent 173 snaps in the slot in 2022 and 348 snaps in the slot in 2020.
