The Jacksonville Jaguars have kicked off their free-agency period.

After re-signing six of their own players during the first weeks of the offseason and the first week of free agency, the Jaguars added their first external free agent on Wednesday with the signing of former Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Michael Dogbe.

Dogbe was drafted out of Temple in 2019, with the Cardinals selecting him with the No. 249 overall pick. Last season, Dogbe played in 13 games, starting four. He had a career-high 282 defensive snaps. He recorded 28 tackles and one tackle for loss. In four seasons, he appeared in 40 games, had 61 tackles, two sacks, four tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery.

Dogbe spent two of his first three seasons with Jaguars defensive line coach Brentson Buckner, who coached the Cardinals' defensive line in 2020 and 2021. The signing brings Dogbe back under the tutelage of Buckner, who will lead the defensive line room that consists of Dogbe, Roy Robertson-Harris, DaVon Hamilton, Foley Fatukasi, Adam Gotsis, Jeremiah Ledbetter, and Nick Furman.

Dogbe translates best as an interior defensive lineman, playing both three- and five-technique with the Arizona Cardinals throughout his career.

“There’s a win-win in every deal. You’ve just got to find that. We’ve got an organization that players now want to play for, and when you’re in that situation, it’s a great community," Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this month.

"I think the players got a real taste of what that community can offer. If you look at the last two games of the year, how electric that stadium was and filled with Jaguar fans. Normally, in the past, at least since I’ve been there, when we did have a full crowd, it probably leaned itself toward the opponent. The last couple games of the year, it wasn’t that way. I think they players seeing that, getting a feel for that, us within the organization who haven’t been a part of it that long, seeing that was inspiring, and it’s our job to put a product out there that the fans want to come and see, and that’s where we’re at right now in the buildup of the 2023 roster.”
