Report: Jaguars to Release CB Darious Williams

The Jacksonville Jaguars have made another major cut.
A day after releasing veteran defensive lineman Foley Fatukasi, the Jaguars are releasing another defensive starter. This time, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, it is cornerback Darious Williams.
The move will save the Jaguars $11 million and results in only a $500,000 dead cap hit. Williams signed a three-year, $30 million deal in 2022 that included $18 million guaranteed.
The #Jaguars are planning to release CB Darious Williams, source said, in a move to create cap space. He had a $10.5M cap hit. He had 9 passes defended and four INTs last year.

This creates more room to franchise tag star pass-rusher Josh Allen.
Williams played in all 34 games for the Jaguars over the last two years, while also playing in both postseason games in 2022. He started 29 games and recorded 106 tackles, five tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, four interceptions, and 35 pass breakups.
Williams started all 17 games in 2022 and had one of the best seasons of his career, recording four interceptions and 19 pass breakups.
With Williams and his 1,035 snaps on the outside now needing to be replaced, cornerback is obviously one of the biggest holes on the Jaguars' roster.
"We’ve got to add to that group, I think Coach Nielsen [Defensive Coordinator Ryan Nielsen] spoke on it, Coach Pederson [Head Coach Doug Pederson] probably spoke on it," Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said last week at the NFL Scouting Combine.
"Now, I’m speaking on it. It’s a group we need to address. We feel good about the group we have, we feel like we’ve got some good, young guys to work with. We’ve got some veterans in there, but we’re definitely going to look to add to that group.”
