JaguarMaven week 4 mailbag: Questions on the offensive line, Nick Foles and more

Each week following a Jacksonville Jaguars game, JaguarsMaven will take Jacksonville Jaguars-related questions from our readers across social media and answer them in a question-and-answer format, giving readers a chance to have their voices heard.

This week's questions focuses on the future of the Jaguars offensive line, the quarterback position and, of course, the Jalen Ramsey saga.

Question from @cbass904: How many OL do we draft next April? Over/Under set at 3?

Answer: Honestly, I don't think drafting 2-3 is out of the question at all. They are going to need better depth at OT than Cedric Ogbuehi, and they have some major questions to answer on the interior. Each starting guard and center have contracts that can be easily dropped after this season, and the trio will need to play much better over the next 13 weeks to prevent the Jaguars from having to stockpile on young offensive lineman.

From @Ryoung2596: Last week the Jags played 7 OL with us keeping Norwell, Linder, and Taylor in at all times. Richardson always played with Ogbuehi and Cann always with Robinson. Why do you think this is? Continuity?

Answer: I think they mainly did this because the offensive line really got zero reps together all preseason because of injuries to Cam Robinson, Cedric Ogbuehi and Jawaan Taylor at points. Head coach Doug Marrone said he wanted to rotate Ogbuehi and Will Richardson into the game last week to get them the reps they have missed at LT and RG, and yes, they always entered the game together because they wanted to keep some sense of continuity.

From @PhillyPhan21: Eagles fan here but Foles fan always! Do you think there’s chance of him losing his starting job?

A: This is a question that I think will have a lot more clarity a month or so down the road. But basically there are two scenarios: If Gardner Minshew has the team with a strong winning record such as 6-3 and is on a roll, then I do not think you can bench him. But if the team is .500 or below, I think Foles gets his job back quickly.

From @Ryoung2596: By cutting Andrew Norwell post 6/1, we save $11.5 million in 2020. Do you think it's almost a guarantee that happens due to current play?

A: I do, and for a few reasons. If the Jaguars have a winning season and keep some of the front office around, they will still have a group of decision makes who have not been afraid to move on from failed free agency signings with quickness in the past (Zane Beadles, Julius Thomas).

If the Jaguars do get a new front office, they will be getting a group who has no connection to Norwell and would not be afraid to cut ties for a previous regimes mistake. So yes, if Norwell does not vastly improve I think he is a lock to be cut.

From @BostonJag9: I feel most impressed by Gardner Minshew's ability to quickly analyze the defense and get through his progressions. What have your observations been there?

A: Aside from his pinpoint accuracy, I think this is the biggest improvement Minshew has brought to the Jaguars offense compared to last season's quarterbacks. You can see that he trusts the scheme and what he is reading and is able to not only move off of his reads, but also find the open man when a play breaks down. I think a lot of this has to do with his mental makeup and natural instincts, each of which are top-notch.

A: With Jalen Ramsey playing, I am going to go 24-10 Jaguars over Broncos.
