Jaguars’ Christian Kirk: ‘We Step on This Field To Be the Best Offense in the League’

Could the Jaguars be one of the best offenses in the NFL in 2023? That is their goal, and there is plenty working in their favor.

It isn't hard to remember the days when the Jacksonville Jaguars' entire offensive goal was to simply keep their heads above water.

Now, though, the Jaguars have much, much bigger goals.

A year after finishing as the No. 10 scoring offense the Jaguars are that much more confident in even bigger things. Adding a weapon like Calvin Ridley to the mix on top of an extra year in the system for the likes of Trevor Lawrence, Evan Engram, Zay Jones, and Christian Kirk has heads turned in Jacksonville, and for good reason.

“Most definitely. I think that’s the goal," Kirk said on Monday when asked if the Jaguars can become the league's highest-scoring offense. "We step on this field to be the best offense in the league and that’s our mindset."

Kirk was one of the major reasons the Jaguars had an offensive renaissance a year ago. The improvement from arguably the NFL's worst offense in 2021 to one of the league's best in 2022 was, of course, spearheaded by Lawrence and head coach Doug Pederson, but it was Kirk and the Jaguars' upgraded weapons who helped the Jaguars get over any potential humps.

But there are also plenty of reasons to believe the Jaguars can be even better in 2023.

"I think it starts with our redzone attack, being more efficient in the redzone and making the most of our opportunities," Kirk said. "I know that’s a big emphasis for us, is being better in the red zone and putting the ball in the end zone. When we get down there and we have our days during camp where we’re competing in redzone, guys are extra locked in because we need to do that at a higher level this year.”

"I thought, especially at the beginning of last week and the first four practices were really good for us. I think the point to where we’re at right now, it’s pretty encouraging with the way we were able to come out and execute. Even guys that are new to the system and whatnot, just being able to pick it up and play fast. So I like the starting point, but it gets a little harder tomorrow, throwing the pads and whatnot. It’s going to get a little hotter and days are going to start adding up. I’m excited to see how we’re able to face some of that, the dog days of camp, and be able to perform at a high level.”
