Jaguars have a great deal of respect for Sunday's opposing coach, first-year HC Vic Fangio

Vic Fangio is walking into his battle against Doug Marrone with mutual respect

When Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2) head coach Doug Marrone patrols the visiting team's sidelines during Sunday's game in Mile High Stadium against the Denver Broncos (0-3), he will be standing across from Broncos first-year head coach Vic Fangio, a man he has a past with.

“He was a coach when I played for the New Orleans Saints, so I have a ton of respect for Vic. He’s an unbelievable coach. He’s done a great job where he has been and this opportunity has probably been too long in the waiting for him with what he has been able to do. He’s a great guy," Marrone said Wednesday. 

Fangio was joined on that staff by other familiar faces, with Marrone joking that their history shows both of their ages.

"When he coached the linebackers in New Orleans, this was back in 1989, that tells you how old I am and really how old his ass is. When I was playing, he was coaching. [Defensive Assistant] Coach [Dom] Capers was with him. Coach Capers was a DBs coach. They had a good staff. Coach Jim Mora Sr. was the head coach. Good staff. Good football coach, and I like him a lot.”

Rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew will be walking into his second-ever NFL road start with Fangio gameplanning specifically to slow him down. Despite the Broncos slow start to the season, Minshew knows Fangio is going to bring it on Sunday and make his life hard.

 “I think he’s a guy that, he’s not going to listen to whatever the media’s saying. He’s a guy that’s done really well for a long, long time. And I think he’s going to do what he’s going to do. He’s going to have adjustments for every game, but I don’t think people calling him out is going to have any effect on how he calls the game.
