Jaguars’ Josh Allen Named a Top-15 EDGE for 2023

There are so many gifted pass-rushers in today's NFL that it can be hard to separate several of the top guys. That makes it a smart decision to sort the best edge defenders by tiers, which is exactly what Pro Football Focus did in their latest ranking of the NFL's edge rushers.
And in their list of the NFL's best, the Jacksonville Jaguars didn't have to wait terribly long to be represented, with Josh Allen being placed in the third tier at No. 15.
"Allen has steadily improved throughout his career, earning career highs in total pressures (67) and pass rush win percentage (14.2%) in 2022. He’s also improved dramatically as a run defender, becoming one of the best all-around young edge players in the league," PFF said.
The only pass-rushers in tiers ahead of Allen are Mylea Garrett, Micah Parsons, Nick Bosa, Joey Bosa, T.J. Watt, and Maxx Crosby in the first tier; Haason Reddick, Rashan Gary, Trey Hendrickson, Von Miller, Danielle Hunter, and Brian Burns in the second tier; and Khalil Mack and Jaelan Phillips in the third tier.
The No. 7 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Allen came in fourth in AP Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2019, earning a nod as a Pro Bowl alternate as he set a Jaguars rookie record in sacks (10.5) while recording 11 tackles for loss and 23 quarterback hits, along with two forced fumbles. He became the first Jaguars rookie to ever appear in the Pro Bowl.
Allen appeared in eight games in 2020, recording 2.5 sacks, two tackles for loss and 11 quarterback hits. He then appeared in 16 games in 2021, recording 7.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hits, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one interception.
Last year, Allen led the Jaguars with seven sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and 22 quarterback hits, along with four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, including a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
