Jaguars LT Cam Robinson doubtful for Sunday, Will Richardson set to step in

Head coach Doug Marrone delivered somber news on Friday when he announced that starting left tackle Cam Robinson, who suffered a torn ACL in his left knee last season, injured his right knee Thursday and would be listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

There initially is not much information out there about the extent of Robinson's injury. Marrone said Robinson's knee "gave out" during a pass protection set, but it is not the knee that was injured and surgically repaired, Marrone said.

Starting in place of Robinson will be second-year player Will Richardson, who has been battling to start at right guard. Richardson was drafted as a right tackle, which is the position he played as an All-ACC lineman at NC State. And while Marrone said he thinks Richardson can get the job done, Richardson said left tackle is foreign territory for him.

Richardson told media he found out Friday that he would be playing left tackle and matching up with pass rusher Frank Clarke on Sunday. But it was even before Robinson went down with another injury that Richardson requested to get some reps at the blindside.

"(Offensive line coach George Warhop) told me yesterday to pick one (position) I want to work on for this week and stick with it and I picked left tackle," Richardson said. "So then it just so happened that he told me this morning to get ready to play left tackle."

Richardson said his mindset going into the matchup is to perform like a starter. He said he feels he can handle it, but also do much more than just be serviceable.

"And not only just handle it, but do well. That is my main goal, to go out there and not only show them I can play it but show them that I can play it good," he said.

Richardson has played a number of spots along the team's offensive line since being drafted in the fourth round in the 2018 NFL Draft. He said the movement along the line has made him think for some time that he would play left tackle. And on Sunday, that time will come.

"They have been moving around a lot from guard to tackle and tackle to guard and left from right. So I kind of figured that sooner or later that left tackle was going to slide in there," he said.
