Jaguars Reportedly Interview Kris Richard, Former Leader of Seahawks, Cowboys and Saints' Secondaries

The Jacksonville Jaguars could be looking to bring the band back together in 2024.

After new defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen served as co-coordinator with Kris Richard in New Orleans in 2022, there appears to be a chance the two reunite in Jacksonville.

According to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, the Jaguars have interviewed Richard for a spot on the staff. Richard and Nielsen shared the coordinator role with the Saints in 2022 and also coached together in New Orleans in 2021, as well as played under Pete Carroll at USC together in the late 1990s and early 2000s,

After not coaching in 2023, Richard took a head coaching interview with the Las Vegas Raiders this month. Last year, Richard interviewed with the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos for their vacant defensive coordinator positions, which then went to Vic Fangio and Vance Joseph, respectively.

Before leading a strong Saints secondary for two reasons, Richard served as the Dallas Cowboys' defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator from 2018-2019.

Before then, Richard was with the Seattle Seahawks from 2010-2017, reuniting with his college coach in Carroll. Richard started as an assistant defensive backs coach in 2010 before being promoted to cornerbacks coach in 2011.

From 2012-2014, which is also known as the Legion of Boom era, Richard served as defensive backs coach and was given tremendous credit for the Seahawks' elite secondary play. From 2017-2017, Richard served as Dan Quinn's replacement as Seattle's defensive coordinator, Richard's first tenure as a coordinator in the NFL.
