Jaguars vs. Panthers: Trevor Lawrence Misses Thursday's Practice

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence did not participate in Thursday's practice, marking his second missed practice this week after suffering an AC sprain in his throwing shoulder on Sunday.
“Yeah, obviously if it were a defensive guy like [S] Andre Cisco who had a shoulder earlier, you can harness those things and keep things nice and tight. He can still practice," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said on Thursday.
"As long as you don’t bang him around and all of that. Well, the quarterback, you’re handing the ball off with that right arm, you’re throwing with the right arm. You’re stressing the shoulder a bit more, so those are all thing you’ve got to be careful of. It’s really a tolerance thing more than anything else, but you still want to be careful everyday you’re out there.”
Lawrence was replaced by C.J. Beathard in the final quarter of Sunday's 30-12 loss to Tampa Bay, though Lawrence finished the drive he was injured on with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Calvin Ridley. Lawrence ultimately injured his shoulder when diving out of bounds and landing on it near the end of the third quarter.
Lawrence finished the game 17-of-29 for 211 yards and a touchdown, also throwing two interceptions and losing one fumble. To this point in his career, Lawrence has never missed a start, becoming one of just three quarterbacks this week to start every single game since Week 1 of the 2021 season.
This is the fourth injury Lawrence has sustained this year, following a knee injury in Week 6, an ankle sprain in Week 13, a concussion in Week 15, and now the shoulder injury.
“I think you’ve got to consider where we are in the season, what we have moving forward. Obviously, the biggest thing, and we’ve talked about this too, is you don’t want to risk further injury," Pederson said.
"That’s the big thing. If Trevor plays, we’re all in on that. If C.J. plays, we’re all in on that. The one thing about C.J. is in Trevor’s absence during the week, it’s valuable that C.J. has gotten all the reps and he’s prepared that way. He’s ready to go in a moment’s notice, he stepped in last week and obviously did a nice job for us last week at the end of that game. It’s a tough decision, but sometimes, I have to make those decisions based on Trevor’s health and where we are as a team.”
Limited for the Jaguars on Thursday were:
- CB Christian Braswell (hamstring)
- CB Tyson Campbell (finger)
- S Andre Cisco (groind)
- OL Ezra Cleveland (knee)
- OL Cam Robinson (knee)
- WR Zay Jones (knee/hamstring)
- TE Brenton Strange (foot)
- OL Walker Little (hamstring)
