Needing a win to keep their season alive, the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to have to do it without starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence was ruled out for the first time in his NFL career on Friday, with a right throwing shoulder injury snapping his 49-start streak.

Lawrence was replaced by C.J. Beathard in the final quarter of last week's 30-12 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, though Lawrence finished the drive he was injured on with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Calvin Ridley. Lawrence ultimately injured his shoulder when diving out of bounds and landing on it near the end of the third quarter.

Lawrence finished the game 17-of-29 for 211 yards and a touchdown, also throwing two interceptions and losing one fumble. To this point in his career, Lawrence has never missed a start, becoming one of just three quarterbacks this week to start every single game since Week 1 of the 2021 season.

This is the fourth injury Lawrence has sustained this year, following a knee injury in Week 6, an ankle sprain in Week 13, a concussion in Week 15, and now the shoulder injury. Wide receiver Zay Jones and offensive tackle Cam Robinson were both ruled questionable, but it appears Robinson will return and start at left tackle.

"I’m going to do everything I can to help the team if that’s the case and help C.J. [Beathard], I’ve got a ton of confidence in him and his ability to operate the system and the offense, and to play well," Lawrence said this week.

"You saw he did that on Sunday in the Bucs game when he had to come in and he played well. At the point, it’s not going to be about me, it’s going to be about what I can do to help the team to win. At that point, it’s encouraging, leading, talking to guys, helping C.J. communicate whatever he needs to communicate. The coaches, same thing. Doing whatever I need to do, but we’ll see how the week goes. Whatever the case is, I’m going to be there and do whatever I need to do to help.”
