Jaguars vs. Steelers: Week 8 Snap Count Analysis

While watching a game live can give you one impression of a player's usage, looking at the actual amount of snaps they played compared to their teammates can also give insight into the team's strategy and outlook.
When looking at the snap counts for the Jacksonville Jaguars after their 20-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8, it is clear to see what kind of plan the Jaguars went into the game with, and what limitations they had from a personnel standpoint.
Who played a lot, and why? Did the snaps mean anything or nothing? We examine below:
Offense (71 snaps)
- LT Cam Robinson: 71 (100%)
- LG Tyler Shatley: 71 (100%)
- C Luke Fortner: 71 (100%)
- RG Brandon Scherff: 71 (100%)
- RT Anton Harrison: 71 (100%)
- QB Trevor Lawrence: 71 (100%)
- RB Travis Etienne: 63 (89%)
- WR Calvin Ridley: 61 (86%)
- TE Evan Engram: 56 (79%)
- WR Christian Kirk: 47 (66%)
- TE Luke Farrell: 33 (46%)
- TE Brenton Strange: 29 (41%)
- WR Tim Jones: 25 (35%)
- WR Jamal Agnew: 20 (28%)
- WR Elijah Cooks: 7 (10%)
- RB Tank Bigsby: 6 (8%)
- OL Blake Hance: 5 (7%)
- RB D'Ernest Johnson: 3 (4%)
- It might be time for D'Ernest Johnson to be bumped up to No. 2 running back. It isn't many more snaps considering Travis Etienne is playing nearly the entire game, but the Jaguars have now seen Tank Bigsby turn the ball over on three of his 24 touches.
- The Jaguars have made it clear they only trust three wide receivers on game day. Calvin Ridley and Christian Kirk were the only receivers targeted on Sunday, with Jamal Agnew, Elijah Cooks and Tim Jones seeing zero targets on 28 combined routes.
- The Jaguars deployed heavier sets this week compared to Week 8, employing more 12 and 13 personnel, which lead to an increase in snaps for Luke Farrell and Brenton Strange, along with five snaps for jumbo package lineman Blake Hance.
Defense (67 snaps)
- FS Andrew Wingard: 67 (100%)
- SS Rayshawn Jenkins: 67 (100%)
- ILB Foyesade Oluokun: 67 (100%)
- ILB Devin Lloyd: 67 (100%)
- CB Montaric Brown: 67 (100%)
- CB Darious Williams: 65 (97%)
- CB Tre Herndon: 57 (85%)
- OLB Josh Allen: 55 (82%)
- OLB Travon Walker: 49 (73%)
- DL Roy Robertson-Harris: 41 (61%)
- DL Dawuane Smoot: 37 (55%)
- OLB K'Lavon Chaisson: 19 (28%)
- DL Foley Fatukasi: 19 (28%)
- DL Adam Gotsis: 16 (24%)
- DL Angelo Blackson: 16 (24%)
- DL DaVon Hamilton: 14 (21%)
- DL Jeremiah Ledbetter: 11 (16%)
- FS Antonio Johnson: 1 (1%)
- SS Daniel Thomas: 1 (1%)
- CB Tevaughn Campbell: 1 (1%)
- Next man up is one of the most important phrases for any NFL team, and especially the Jaguars' defense in Week 8. With Tyson Campbell and Andre Cisco both out with hamstring injuries, the Jaguars saw Montaric Brown and Andrew Wingard play every single snap in their place.
- DaVon Hamilton made his 2023 debut, playing 14 snaps and in a rotational role among the Jaguars' other backup defensive linemen. Hamilton played eight pass-rush snaps and six snaps vs. the run and should be expected to see his snaps increase each week.
- Antonio Johnson picked off Mitch Trubisky on 100% of his defensive snaps. #NextGenStats
