The Jacksonville Jaguars aren't done shaping their roster before offseason workouts begin.

A week after signing running back D'Ernest Johnson in free agency, the Jaguars waived running back Mekhi Sargent on Monday. The Jaguars now have five running backs on their roster: Johnson, Travis Etienne, JaMycal Hasty, Snoop Conner, and Qadree Ollison.

Sargent, 5-8, 208, was claimed off waivers by the Jaguars from the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 27, 2021 and played in seven total games in 2021, including one game with the Jaguars.

Sargent spent the 2022 season on the Jaguars' practice squad after not making the team's 53-man roster.

Sargent attended the University of Iowa and appeared in 34 career games from 2018-20, rushing 354 times for 1,801 yards and 20 TDs.

The waiving of Sargent doesn't change much for the Jaguars, especially after the signing of Johnson, who figures to compete with Conner for a spot as the Jaguars' No. 3 running back.

"And you know, he's a guy that's a veteran type player who just again, gives us depth, gives us competition. Somebody I think that that can, you know, come in and challenge maybe Snoop. I say challenge, I mean, good competition there, right, as we go and, and just see where things fall out," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said last week at the owners meetings in Phoenix.

"But the special teams, for him, obviously, is something of importance as we look to these guys"

The Jaguars will kick off offseason workouts on April 17.
