Jalen Ramsey speaks out a day after reports of a trade request

Jalen Ramsey addressed the media on Tuesday, a day after it became public that his camp has requested a trade out of Jacksonville.

In an almost surreal 16 minute press conference, Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey fielded questions from the media and addressed the one thing that every single person who pays attention to the Jaguars is talking about — his request to be traded out of Jacksonville. 

"I have nothing bad or negative to say at all about anybody in this building. Shit happens. It is what it is. I think everybody for the most part knows what's up, so I don't really too much want to speak on it and give no detail. I'm (going to) let God do his work. I'm going to let my agent do his work," Ramsey said Tuesday. 

"Everybody is going to work it out and I'm going to focus on what I can focus on and right now that's being a good teammate still while I'm here."

Ramsey's agent, David Mulugheta, asked the team to trade him on Sunday following the team's 13-12 loss to the Houston Texans, according to multiple reports on Monday evening. This came a few hours after head coach Doug Marrone said Ramsey would not be disciplined by the team for getting into a heated argument with Marrone on the sideline during the first quarter of the loss.

Surrounded by dozens of reporters, Ramsey did not mince words once when asked about the reports of a trade request. He would not deny the request and when asked what the team could do to keep him around long-term, he was blunt in saying there was really nothing that could happen.

“I can’t answer that question for you, honestly. So, I ain’t going to give you no bullshit," he said. 

Among the most interesting parts of a press conference filled with highlights however was when Ramsey also seemed to take offense to speculation that he and his agent were the ones who gave national media the scoop on him requesting a trade.

“Uh, let’s be clear about something in regards to that. I didn’t leak that information. Me and my agent, we are not the ones who leaked that information. And I was very strict about that because I did not want it to get out. I didn’t want to be a distraction. I didn’t want everybody asking my teammates all type of questions throughout the week, so let me real clear about that," Ramsey said.

"I was not the one, me and my team, we was not the one that leaked that information because I thought about my teammates. I thought about stuff like that, so y’all need to ask the other side or whoever.”

The fourth-year cornerback mentioned time after time how he didn't want to be a distraction to his team before Thursday night's home game against the Tennessee Titans, and the love he has for his teammates and others in the building. 

Ramsey seemed to have some support while he spoke, with linebacker Myles Jack and cornerback Josh Robinson both present for his comments. It is hard to see a team's best player requesting a trade as something that isn't a distraction, but that is what Ramsey wants. 

"I’m in a good space right now and I’m trying to put out as much positive energy as I can to flow through my teammates. It’s a short week. It’s one of the toughest weeks in the NFL for teams, getting ready for a division game on a short week. Man, I’m not trying to add added distractions onto these guys at all." 

Throughout the briefing, Ramsey declined to speak on the private conversations he has had with ownership or coaches, but it was clear he has voiced that he wants out. What some people hoped on Monday night was a short-term breakup that could be repaired revealed itself on Tuesday as a full-blown divorce.

"They may, they may not (trade me). I'm going to let God figure everything out. God, my agent. When I have conversations with them, we'll figure some things out and we'll go like that. As long as I'm here, y'all going to get everything out of me. I think y'all know that, though."
