NFL Power Rankings Roundup: Where Do the Jaguars Land After Week 1?

The Jaguars were one of just six AFC teams to leave Week 1 with a win, knocking the Indianapolis Colts off 31-21 on the road.

Entering Week 2, things will get tougher. But for now, the Jaguars are one of the AFC's team on track for success.

“Yeah, it’s still a work in progress. You saw it around the league I think, with offenses and defenses that Week 1 is not going to decide your season at all," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said this week.

"How many times have you seen teams jump out 4-, 5-, 6-0, and then falter in December and January. You want to be one of the teams that are going the other direction. You want to be going up in December and January. It was good to get the win, but overall, we’ve got some corrections to make, we’ve got to get better, communication has got to get better, and we’ll work on those this week.”

But where exactly do the Jaguars stand in the eyes of the national media after Week 1? We break it down below.

Fox Sports: 10

The Jaguars were ranked ahead of teams like the Chargers, Browns and the Packers in this week's Fox Sports' power rankings.

Credit the Jags for not panicking when they found themselves trailing late to the lowly Colts. It would have been a Very Jags Thing to do had they melted down, but they instead outscored Indy, 14-0, in the fourth quarter to put things on ice. Trevor Lawrence to Calvin Ridley looks like it’s going to be one of the most fun connections in the NFL.

NFL.com: 7

Eric Edholm has the Jaguars rising up two spots, jumping the Buffalo Bills and ranking ahead of teams like the Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Early mistakes put the Jaguars in a hole against the Colts, but it says something that the team could coolly move ahead late with some offensive flourishes and win comfortably enough on the road. Calvin Ridley is the real deal, as he and Trevor Lawrence looked like a perfect match in their first regular-season outing together. The early returns for Tank Bigsby were less encouraging. His go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter put the Jags ahead for good, but the rookie dropped a pass that became a pick in the second quarter and he lacked awareness on a bizarre play that led to a Colts defensive TD. Doug Pederson has trusted the third-round pick to this point, but Bigsby needs to tighten things up.

33rd Team: 5

The Jaguars leap from No. 7 to No. 5 after the Week 1 win.

We now know with certainty Calvin Ridley is going to be a difference-maker for Trevor Lawrence. The Jacksonville Jaguars‘ offensive tackle situation is still a little questionable, but overall, this is a top-10 offense. Defensively, the Jaguars’ blue chip edge duo is a strength, but their secondary is still a weakness. Last week’s matchup in Indianapolis was closer than the score would indicate, as Jacksonville pulled away late. The Jaguars get a much tougher test with Kansas City coming to town in Week 2.

USA Today: 7

Another top-10 ranking for the Jaguars, with Nate Davis having the Jaguars jump from No. 9 to No. 7.

Trevor Lawrence's four-game winning streak against AFC South foes is a team record for a quarterback. Certainly helps to have WR Calvin Ridley, fresh off his first 100-yard receiving day in nearly three years.

Bleacher Report: 9

The top-10 streak continues for the Jaguars, with No. 9 actually being one of their lower rankings.

The Jaguars entered the 2023 season with something rare in Duval County—lofty expectations. Given those expectations, Sunday's uneven performance against the rival Colts was somewhat surprising. But as the game moved into the fourth quarter, the Jaguars settled down and took care of business before emerging with a 10-point win.

CBS Sports: 3

Pete Prisco has the Jaguars all the way at No. 3, behind only the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Even on a day when they didn't look great on offense, they scored 31 points. That's the sign of a special unit. They have to be better this week against the Chiefs.

Yahoo! Sports: 11

The first power ranking to have the Jaguars outside of the top-10 is from Frank Schwab.

Calvin Ridley looked great. The Jaguars didn't have their best game, and they'll need to clean some things up, but seeing Trevor Lawrence and Ridley already looking unstoppable was a great start to the season.

Pro Football Network: 9

The Jaguars rise from No. 10 to No. 9 in Pro Football Network's rankings.

While the Jaguars made enough errors to allow the Colts to stay in Sunday’s contest, the Trevor Lawrence-to-Calvin Ridley connection already looks incredibly strong. Jacksonville probably didn’t play as well as it wanted to in Week 1, but they still emerged with a win. The rest of the AFC South might not offer any legitimate competition for Doug Pederson’s team this season.
