Nick Foles prepared for the season despite quiet preseason

Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles will end his first preseason with the Jaguars having only played a handful of series, but here is why he feels ready to execute when the real games begin.

Nick Foles, the Jaguars' prized free agent addition at quarterback, will almost certainly sit out the Jaguars final preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. After Foles and dozens of other players were held out of the first two preseason games, this means the totality of preseason game experience for Foles and the starting offense entering week 1 is limited to a handful of possessions.

Despite this, Foles feels as prepared as possible for the 2019 regular season, he explained following Thursday's 22-7 loss to the Miami Dolphins. A big reason why is because of his past experiences, in which he has come off of the bench and had to play meaningful snaps, he said.

Football is a crazy game. It is really about relationships. And I'm a broken record, but I mean I've come off the bench at the end of the season without playing any ball and had to play ball at the highest level. And the reason I was able to that is the people that were around me. I trusted them, I loved them and I cared for them.

Foles said simply being in the huddle with the starting offense and building those relationships was a major step forward for the team.

The quarterback also addressed some news that came out during the week of practices leading up to the Jaguars week 2 preseason game against his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles. Foles said this experience is another reason he feels confident the offense will be able to gel week one.

"The thing I've said is I've come off the bench extremely cold at the end of the season with a torn elbow and I was able to play," Foles said. "And I know torn elbow is something that was brought out in public last week and that was hidden, but I was able to play with that and trust the people during that time and that's what it's about."

And much like the Eagles locker room in 2017, Foles said the Jaguars current locker room is building the strong relationships needed to win games this season.

It's about those relationships. It's about caring for one another. And the locker room is full of that right now. That is something that's special.
