Report: Jaguars and Bears Have 'Inquired' About CB Arthur Maulet

The Jacksonville Jaguars could look to add some veteran experience to their cornerback room.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the "Jaguars and Bears are among teams that have inquired on free agent corner Arthur Maulet, who requested and was granted his release from Pittsburgh in May. Maulet -- who had 59 tackles, two sacks and an INT last year -- is weighing options and plan to be with a team for camp."

Maulet signed with the Steelers in 2021 and played their starting nickelback role the last two seasons. The 29-year-old played 33 games, including eight starts, and recorded 106 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception during his time in Pittsburgh.
Considering the Jaguars didn't add a defensive back this offseason until the fifth-round of the 2023 NFL Draft, there are only young options to potentially push nickel cornerback Tre Herndon.
The Jaguars drafted two Day 3 cornerbacks last year in Gregory Junior and Montaric Brown, while they added three defensive backs in this year's draft who could push for snaps in the slot in Antonio Johnson, Christian Braswell and Erick Hallett II.
Between those five and Herndon, the veteran Herndon is still the fighting favorite to be the starting nickel corner opposite of Tyson Campbell and Darious Williams. If Maulet is added to the Jaguars' cornerback room, which also consists of Chris Claybrooks and Tevaughn Campbell, then they will have plenty of options.
"Tre is on the team and Tre is back. We won a lot of football teams with those three on the field," Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said after Day 2 of the NFL Draft.
"We feel good about them. We feel good about the younger guys developing, as well."
With the Jaguars saving plenty of cap space following Evan Engram's extension, they seem well positioned to make a potential move such as Maulet.
